HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - This is a lovely hotel in a former palace with only 12 rooms. The hotel is spacious and the perfect place to return to after a busy day of sightseeing in Florence. There is a beautiful rooftop deck with a bar to watch the sunset. The staff is amazing and the breakfast is not to be missed. Breakfast is served in one of their formal rooms and the buffet is set up beautifully including prosecco to add to your orange juice.  Eggs are cooked to order including eggs benedict. This hotel is a little more than other 3 star properties, however, it is worth it. I stayed in the "fresco suite" which is located next to the courtyard. It has a private terrace also and the room has a sitting area. The only drawback is to reach your room you walk through the courtyard. My guests that have stayed here have had nothing but compliments for the hotel, staff and location.

This is a  finely restored historic luxury accommodation near Ponte Vecchio -and regarded as one of the best addresses for anyone looking for the quintessentially Florence luxury hotel. Walk in one our twelve Florence suites and indulge in the warm atmosphere of Renaissance brought back to life.
Each Magnani Feroni suite is an inspiring adventure in the sophisticated elegance of the 16th century. Marble bathrooms, vintage original pieces of furniture, precious woods, sumptuous fabrics, baroque style mirrors and magnificent frescos will make you experience the most genuine Florence lifestyle.
The cozy and romantic ambience is masterfully balanced with cutting-edge features for business and leisure travelers alike, such as free Wi-Fi internet connection and satellite flat-screen TVs with international channels and SKY channels.

MEETING POINT: Main entrance of Palazzo Medici Riccardi - Via Cavour, 1 (close to the Duomo)
STATUS:  Sent Email - waiting on confirmation
COST: 210 euros total for a private tour + 33 euros for museum entry

Note: The small group tour is not available during the month of May. The other shared tour was during the evening which wasn't an option.

Meeting at  Palazzo Medici Riccardi will give you the opportunity to start the exploration of the city talking about the Medici family, the great rulers of Florence during Renaissance.

You will walk to the Accademia museum to show you some of Michelangelo’s works of art. You will admire the Prisoners, the sculptures he made for the monument to Pope Julius II, and the touching Pietà (his second) and discuss his unfinished works, the so-called “non-finito”. Finally your attention will turn to Michelangelo’s David, masterpiece and symbol of the Florentine Renaissance, completed in 1504 when he was only 29 years old.

Next you will walk to the Cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore, better known as the Duomo.  The church started at the end of 1200 was actually finished during Renaissance and  today it's the third largest church in the world.  Made out of bricks, the dome was built by the mathematician, engineer and architect, Filippo Brunelleschi. The guided tour then continues with the Baptistery, one of the city's most ancient religious buildings; the beauty of its doors moved Michelangelo to call them "the Gates of Paradise"! Ghiberti, the artist who created the doors, spent 27 years of his life casting the doors in bronze and then gilding them.

Your walk now moves on to Piazza Signoria, political heart of the city. You reach the square moving along the Medieval streets of Florence, discovering local shops, small trattorias, viewing ancient towers and dwellings, breathing history at every step!

Giotto, considered to be the painter who paved the way for the Renaissance; Filippo Lippi, a friar-painter much admired by Cosimo the Elder, master of Botticelli and also father of the great painter Filippino Lippi, also present in this collection with important works of art.

Botticelli’s harmony of his two most famous paintings: “the Birth of Venus” and “Spring”, both of them painted for the Medici family, with their intriguing symbolism; Leonardo da Vinci’s “Annunciation”, painted when the master was only 20 years old, but already showing his colour shading technique characterized by subtle transitions between colours, thus creating an atmospheric haze; the marvellous “Tondo Doni” by Michelangelo, the only painting in the gallery definitely by great master, still in its original frame, also designed by Michelangelo; some of the most famous works by Raphael, the portraits of the two Popes Julius II and Leo X; to finish with the Venetian painter Titian, the official painter of the Emperor Charles V, the most versatile of the Italian painters.

I have stayed at this hotel on three different trips as well as several of my clients. Eveyone loves the location and the rooftop views from the restaurant and bar.  There is a small lobby and an inner courtyard where breakfast is served. Historic ruins directly across the street.  The restaurant is very good as well.

Fortyseven is housed in a large, modernist-influenced building with sharp edges and no rounded corners that served as the seat of the capital for the Province of Rome until 2004; the property’s new incarnation looks fresh and modern.. The welcoming, creative ambiance of the venue is bolstered by its visual art, as each floor is decorated with a different artist from the 20th century, including Guccione and Modigliani. A major highpoint is the rooftop restaurant Circus, which is popular with both guests and locals and has sweeping views of ancient temples.

ROOM: The Fortyseven’s rooms, ranging from standard fare to suites, are spacious and feature wooden parquet floors, a neutral color scheme (white bedding, gray throws, light woods, and beige walls), and comfortable hypoallergenic mattresses. They are elegant and understated without feeling bare. The bathrooms have spacious walk-in showers with rain showerheads. Guests also get little amenities such as robes and slippers.

LOCATION: Built in a central location, the hotel is close to a number of popular monuments, including the Forum, the Bocca Della Verita, the Teatro Marcello, and Tiber Island. It's just a bit farther to other popular sights: The Colosseum and Pantheon, for example, are both a 15-minute walk away.

PAYMENT AND CITY TAX:  Paid to hotel in cash at time of departure - City tax is  6 euros per person per day
GUARANTEE: Room to be held with a valid credit card

Once inside the Colosseum, you will first be directed to the entrance of the Colosseum arena with your tour guide immediately introducing you to the wonders of the Ancient Roman games. Walk through the archway and walk onto the light yellow colored arena, where you will get a feel for what it was like to hear the roar of 70,000 spectators chanting your name.
You will descend into the Colosseum dungeons, learn about the complex labyrinth that lived under the arena floor, filled with cages, mechanical elevators, rooms and prisons. Here is where the gory tales you only read about come to life.

Once you have finished your tour inside the Colosseum, your guide will lead you to another Roman icon – the Palatine Hill. This was once an exclusive neighborhood which was home to political figures who were the backbone of the Roman Empire. This hilltop neighborhood embodied the top of Rome’s social order at a time when Rome ruled the world.

You will see it all come full-circle once you descend into the grand Roman Forum, the public center of Roman political life. Just a few of the inspiring structures your tour guide will take you to, include Julius Caesar’s Temple, the Temple of Antonio & Faustina, and the Basilica of Maxentius and many more.
