The Whittaker's Italian Vacation

Your 8-day trip will begin in Florence the heart of the Renaissance with its beautiful masterpieces and then you'll spend 4 days  in the Eternal City of Rome that has been a beacon of civilization across the Western World for more than two thousand years, a city to which all roads once led.  Italy is best experienced at a leisurely and relaxing pace. With 8 days in Italy, you'll have time to  visit both iconic and the off the beaten path gems.

Your Custom
Tour of Italy

Your custom itinerary has been created specific to your interests for a memorable trip of a lifetime! This allows you to experience a vacation just for you from arrival to departure, the details are anticipated that most travelers don't consider which makes for an unforgettable experience. You'll walk right past the long lines to visit the iconic sites and even have the opportunity to go inside before they are open to the public if you choose.  You'll visit authentic places that the first time visitor rarely discovers.

Nowdays, anyone can book a hotel and airfare on the internet.  As your travel professional, I will be able to negotiate the best rates for you along with a room with a view, special amenities and possibly an upgrade that is rarely given to the price conscience customer on the internet.  In the unlikely event there is a problem with your room or excursions, I'll be able to reach out to the management rather than relying on the person at the front desk or waiting for a reply through the internet.

The fresco-packed Villa Cora was built by a Baron for his Baroness in the 1870s, but the huge heated outdoor pool - Florence’s only - comes courtesy of a 21st-century renovation. Step back into 19th-century opulence, in a converted noble estate, set inside a centuries-old park overlooking the Boboli gardens, just minutes from the city center. At home in its elegant rooms and suites and magnificent common areas, you will feel like a true Florentine aristocrat. Each floor of the Villa reflects a particular style, from Empress Eugénie and her passion for roses, to an oriental style, to the America of the 1950s. Created in harmony with the seasons, memorable gourmet meals are served in the Moorish room or at Le Bistrot. The Bellevue roof terrace is the perfect spot for enjoying impressive views and mesmerizing sunsets, while the heated pool is open all year round for relaxation.

Happy Anniversary! Today is a Day of Leisure

After a long flight you will appreciate a day of leisure. You'll be given my guide of favorite restaurants, and places to stop for the best artisan gelato. The best way to know about gelato is that the bright colorful gelato piled up high in the windows is mass-produced and made for unknowing tourists. The best gelato is made on site using fresh ingredients and the flavor is superior to the mass-produced.  The colors are subdued and reflect the true color, such as the banana won't be bright yellow. Don't waste your money or calories on the touristy gelato.

My favorite area to wander is in the Oltrarno district and rarely seen by tourists. This is where the local restaurants and artisans are located. I'll give you some of my favorite shops and restaurants for this area. Of course, there is plenty of shopping, eating and incredible wine all over Florence.

Belmond San Michele in Fiesole with beautiful views of Florence

November 27 - Tuesday - Florence
First Timers Tour of Florence

TIME: 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Your walking tour combines amusing anecdotes and interesting insights to offer an enjoyable and relaxed approach to the city. Your walk  begins with an unforgettable look around the gallery of the Academy with the statue of David the symbol of the Florentine Renaissance.  Then you'll hear about Michelangelo's masterpieces such as, the ”Prisoners” and the touching “Pietà”.  A walk to the Santa Maria del Fiore, better known as the Duomo.
The guided tour then continues with the Baptistery, one of the city's most ancient religious buildings; the beauty of its doors moved Michelangelo to call them “the Gates of Paradise”! Ghiberti, the artist who created the doors, spent much of his life casting the doors in bronze and then gilding them.

You will walk you through the beauty of the city, moving along the oldest medieval streets of the city centre, lined up with towers. We reach Piazza Signoria, the political heart of the city, with its ancient buildings and famous statues. The square hasn’t changed, since the Medici period, and there you will discover one of the most astonishing perspectives, the view of the Uffizi Gallery.  They will make reservations to skip the lines for you if you wish!
